Innovation is the key to our company’s success and to improving people’s health worldwide. That is why sanofi pasteur invests more than €1 million in research and development every day.

The process to develop a new vaccine can take between 14 and 25 years with an overall cost of between $300 million and $1 billion.


Sanofi Pasteur is at the forefront of developing immunological solutions to prevent from diseases for every stage of life. We are continuously harnessing new scientific knowledge and technologies to design safe and effective single-entity and combination vaccines against complex diseases for the world’s population.

Working alone or with multiple partners, the company is developing vaccines against diseases for which there are pressing needs. Twenty-eight vaccines are currently in development or submitted for approvals, focusing on new targets and improved vaccines for every stage of life including:

  • New vaccines for diseases for which no vaccines exist so far, such as Dengue fever 
  • Next-generation vaccines such as a single-dose vaccine against Japanese encephalitis
  • New preventive and therapeutic vaccines to fight HIV and cancer
  • New technologies and routes of administration such as the intradermal system for influenza vaccine
  • Continuous efforts to improve the effectiveness and tolerability of existing vaccines
