Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccines division of sanofi-aventis Group, is the largest company in the world devoted entirely to human vaccines.
In 2007, sanofi pasteur distributed more than 1.6 billion doses of vaccines, making it possible to vaccinate more than 500 million people across the globe.
The company offers the broadest range of vaccines, providing protection against 20 diseases:
- bacterial diseases: cholera, diphtheria, Haemophilus influenzae type b infections, meningococcal meningitis (serogroups A, C, Y and W-135), pertussis, pneumococcal infections, tetanus, tuberculosis, typhoid fever,
- viral diseases: chickenpox, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, influenza, Japanese encephalitis, measles, mumps, poliomyelitis, rabies, rubella and yellow fever.
A Global Operation
Sanofi Pasteur produces vaccines at seven production sites: in France in Marcy-l'Etoile and Val de Reuil, in the U.S. in Swiftwater (Pennsylvania), in Canada in Toronto, in China in Shenzhen, in Thailand in Bangkok and in Argentina in Pilar. In Europe, Sanofi Pasteur MSD, a joint venture with Merck & Co., develops and distributes vaccines in 19 countries in Europe: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Netherlands, Portugal, United Kingdom, Sweden, Switzerland.
